Seems to me that this is all this game IS. I've been messing around killing mobs of stupid monsters since searing. I rather like it. I thought it was, well, the point.

The OP isn't asking for help, the OP is complaining that ArenaNet's small changes are making it IMPOSSIBLE for him to complete a quest even though they put in some monsters that already existed on the map before the update, and are incredibly numerous in other comparable areas in the region.

I highly doubt that was the actual beef he had with the update, and expect it has everything to do with not being able to run past everything anymore, but that's that. His post started with negativity, and you reap what you sow.

As long as we're going to use cliches, two wrongs don't make a right.

Neither do three, lecturing someone about being too negative doesn't add anything to the thread either, and I don't see you offering helpful suggestions on how he could tackle the problem. Even though ultimately it's not desireable that people give voice to their aggravation, it happened in the OP, it happened in the criticism on it, and it happened in these last few posts. Just like this update, we're all going to cope with it in the end, so it's not really worth fighting over any further.

As is often the case in the legal profession, as well as security - The majority of 'preventative' laws or security measures generally wind up hindering the people they're supposedly implemented to -protect-.

It is -true- that the 'casual' botter, or a guy that actually sits there for hours on end making manual gold runs will find implementations to remedy these particular exploits prohibitive, but the dedicated crook will either find a way to take advantage of the new measures, or simply find a new spot.

There is simply -no- way to prevent this - it's society. One has to understand that there's always a small element that's going to be dedicated to bucking the system in some regard. I like what ANet's been doing so far - at least in -theory-. They've been trying to render gold & items to be -less- of a commodity; hence making it not as worthwhile for exploiters to utilize scripting to get it.

However, as previously stated, in doing so, this -also- has the impact of creating more of a balance between the very casual GW player, and the person that's thoroughly engrossed - literally spending hours per day in game - which makes the game far less rewarding for those who keep company with the group in the latter category.

It's a -very- tricky issue, and a slippery slope at that.

- Best Regards,
TheMarvin

Neither did I yell at him for being frustrated for not knowing a more effecient path. All I attempted to do was make a "lighten up" post. I wasn't aware that such things are on the same level as posts ripping into people who have negative things to say about the game.

The original poster came into the thread in a bad mood because his game experience was made worse by a clusmy attempt to hurt exploiters that he managed to hurt people like him more. I don't see anything wrong with his post other than maybe he should have cooled off a bit before saying anything. Even if he did, I'm pretty sure he'd of been flamed anyways.

I don't really have any advice on the situation, seeing how I unfortunately suck with dealing with the blobs (kind of like a mob, but more clumpy and tends to stick to chokepoints) of Hydras and Storm Riders. If I did know how to do it, I definately would be more helpful than saying that I could solo them fine and that he sucked because he couldn't figure out how to.

Well, I don't believe we ripped into him for saying something negative about the game, rather we ripped into him for crying nerf and 'IMPOSSIBLE' over what we consider a minute change to a map - the hydra packs are all over the Crystal Desert, Skyward Reach has spots where you get assaulted by eight or more at a time, so it's not like they suddenly introduced a challenge of an entirely different level. If I was to give advise, it would be to stop trying to run past them, coupled with the given notion that if you get defeated, take a good look at your build, shuffle your skills around and get better as a player. I put that in a rather elitist fashion earlier, but that's mostly because I'm growing rather tired of people who toss their hands up in the air at the first sign of difficulty and sit down to whine until it gets fixed for them instead of considering their options first.

I agree the solution to this problem was somewhat clumsy. However, the numerous threads about bots on the forum clearly show it's a very difficult issue to deal with, and I can imagine they put in this band-aid until they can come up with a more constructive solution that will take care of the problem on a broader scale. Considering what they've used as band-aids up until this point (removing or nerfing chests considerably), this new solution affects a lot fewer people.

Lightening up does sound like a good idea though, any more bickering over this won't help either side anyway.

I always knew it was those bloody Amish behind all this...

Anet heard the cry and desire to stop bots... I'm pretty sure they did this as much for the community as for themselves and you ALL know, we complained pretty damn hard about the bot issue in Seeker's Passage. They shut down many accounts, the bots continued, the frustrated complaints (probably on many forums) continued. What could they do? Instead of nerfing found treasure they made it so someone would have to think to get to them instead of bee line and map back. Now you have to either fight, wait or go around... or forget them entirely. It may not be the best solution, but it's a solution.

Only botters and chest farmers are complaining about this latest update. For questing, any decent pickup group should have no problem with the added monsters.

uh... Don't cry about the update if you play 1 hour and bot 23 hours daily.

I was expecting a HUGE change from this thread... but it's not. There are TWO, count them, TWO PAIRS OF HYDRA. Big whoop. This is an exact response for the problem. Roaming characters with knockdown attacks. Perfect. I can't think of a better way to do it. If it seems like "hell, we'll just add more monsters" then you are mistaken. They have no need to explain themselves; the thoughtfulness is apparent. Everything else was already there. If you never encountered the boss hydra and his two bodyguards, that was pure luck - they've been there as long as I can remember... from launch date.

It took me precicely 23m 04s from exiting the Seeker's Passage portal, killing everything on the way including our 4 new fireball-tossing friends, killing every single storm kin in the area (24), and finally Yxthoshth himself. lvl17 bots, no deaths. No hurry either; just killed them as they came.

Now, I exited the portal again, and immediately started running for the first wreckage... I got past the first set of devourers, the 3 patrolling kins latched to me, and the first pair of hydra - directly in the pathway of the farmerbots - made short work of the whole group. Their initial patrolling direction and starting placement was intended to trap running fools in a 8-way beat down. I doubt a good party of six humans could get through it unscathed.

ANet: Outstanding. Thanks!

Aalric: I'm sorry it's hard for you. You'll figure it out. We're here to assist. (and if this upsets you, wait till you see what's coming via the southern shiverpeaks and fire islands - the devs are as sadistic as the players.)
Thank you, thank you for emperical data. He proves it can be done, and with minimal effort. 23 minutes is still within an hours playing time. Much shorter than most missions or quests. And, he did it with henchies. Which is considered the minimum standard.

BRING ON THE MONSTERS!
